Does technology upgrades itself daily?

Upgradation of technologies

We are living in the era of upgradation where everything around us updating day by day. Upgradation is by default in human nature, humans always try to improve themselves, from homo sapience to homo sapience sapience humans are updating. And when it comes to technology, it's limitless.

In the 22nd century almost everything we do is related to technology in our living life. From transportation to health care, socialization to globalization, the internet is making all those things in your hand. Due to the Internet ideas, plans, and resources are getting shared worldwide within a minute.

If we look at the past, then we can see the old technologies. If we compare those with the recent technologies that will be a sky and ground difference.

Inventions, discoveries, and upgradation happening at an exponential rate over the past 200 years. As for how the population is growing, humans need is growing, as human needs are growing, many different ideas planning are coming from different minds to make things one step easier than before.

Almost everything we are using in today's life is related to some kind of technology that helps us to do that particular work momentarily. And as for our human nature, we always try to make those work in a easier way and more efficiently by upgrading the technology with the requirement of time.

What actually means up-gradation of technology to us?

We will understand this with an example of the history of data storage technology up-gradation step by step.

We all need data storage by which we can store photos, music, videos or important documents, etc, today we can simply do this, but as you all know this was not as easy before. If we look at the history of data storage, then we can see

The technology of data storage initially started from the age of Vedas, we have seen, people used to write their information on palm leaves. Well, we are not talking about that type of storage, so let's come to the point.

Modern-day data storage mechanisms originally started in the 18th century, in the textile industry punch cards are used to store a series of information of the machinery like Jacquard looms. Those punch cards are used to input data manually by hand, using the punching holes. And then it is feeded into a card reader, which the card reader used to manage that manual information to a proper sequence and convert it into a piece of digital information. Holes were punched on each column representing the number of characters used in the punch cards, Like standard binary codes 0 and 1. The whole program can be executed as long as the punch cards are in the proper order.  In the 1960s, this method started to use less commonly. Because by the year 1956 IBM Launched its new data-storage technology.

IBM created the world's first data storage IBM model 350, the size of a house. Its weight was 971 kg or 2140 lbs and it was able to store only 3.75 MB of data. It was lease to companies at that time was around $3200/month which is around $30260 at today's inflation. These days it's beyond imagination to a 50×24 inch disk or 3.75 MB data storage.

By the year 1971 a new stage of 8-inch disk data storage evolved is called floppy disk, the storage capacity of around 80 kilobytes, which means it needed 50 numbers of disks to store an average size of song, and later on through the upgradation it becomes 5.25 inch and then IBM introduced its 3.5-inch disk by 1986, which was capable of 1.4 megabytes of storage capacity.

And then 1999 was the era of compact data storage, SanDisk, Matsushita, and Toshiba launched their first-ever super compact secured digital memory card or sd card. And just after then in the year 2000 world's first USB thumb drive was introduced to the world, it was capable of storing just 8 megabytes of data. As you all know nowadays USB drives are capable to store more than a thousand megabytes of data, also a tiny sd card is smaller than your nail, and the thickness is just like a tip of the needle in your device can store 1 TB of data. For a little comparison, you need 266,666 numbers of IBM model 350s HDD to store the same amount of data.

And then after 2007 came the cloud storage technology, which is currently storing around 1 exabyte of data, equivalent to 1 billion gigabytes of data.

Human demand increased for data storage over time. Nowadays on average 1GB to 1.5GB of data is consumed by each person every day. So that we have devices like memory cards, SSD data storage drive, HDD storage, etc, which can store 1 Tb or sometimes even 2 Tb of data, which is very simple today. So up-gradation of data storage technology has taken it to another level today.

There is a long and really interesting journey of mobile phones, in this article we are not going to discuss the whole journey here, these days almost everyone has smartphones, where you can see smartphones are updating themselves day by day via software updates and by years their hardware updates.

You have seen tv screen up-gradation in the past 10 years, from box to lcd or led panel display, and now the time of flexible thin displays.

Same as, if we observe the other technologies like computers, vehicles, and almost everything around us, always updating over time. So we can definitely say that technology is upgrading itself daily.
